Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 4, 2026
Overview
Your privacy is very important. Your music or history is not shared. Your AI provider API keys are used to communicate with the AI providers but stay private in your Mac. No personally-identifiable information is collected or used. Anonymous crash logs and statistics are collected with Sentry for the sole purpose of improving the app. In-app purchases are processed and activated with help from RevenueCat.
What we collect
AskPlay does not run its own accounts and does not collect personal information about you. The app may store the following locally on your device: your preferences, your AI provider API key, and a short history of recent commands so you can re-run them.
Apple Music access
AskPlay requires access to Apple Music to read your library and control playback. This access is granted by macOS and used only to perform the actions you request. AskPlay does not upload your library or listening history.
Microphone and speech recognition
Voice features require microphone and speech-recognition permissions, which you grant through macOS. Audio is used only to transcribe your command and is not retained after the command is processed.
AI providers
AskPlay uses your own AI provider API key (for example, OpenAI or Anthropic). When you issue a command, the text of that command is sent directly from your Mac to the provider you've configured, under that provider's terms and privacy policy. AskPlay does not proxy or keep these requests.
Subscription and payments
Access to the app requires a subscription. Payments are handled using in-app purchases via the Apple App Store with help from RevenueCat; we receive only the information necessary to provision and manage your subscription.
Analytics and crash reports
AskPlay may collect anonymous, aggregated diagnostic information to help us fix bugs and improve stability via Sentry. We never transmit your AI provider API keys when diagnostic information is sent.
Your choices
By using AskPlay, you consent to this privacy policy. You can revoke Apple Music, microphone, or speech-recognition access at any time from macOS System Settings. You can remove your AI provider key from AskPlay's settings, and uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
Support
If you choose to contact support, your email is never shared with anyone else and is only used to reply to you.
